ABOUT THE COURSE
This program has been approved for 24 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval. Program Number: 706-42529.

Canine soft tissue surgery part 1 is a 8-week course that will provide an overview of several very common soft tissue surgical procedures in dogs. The course should be of interest to any veterinarian wishing to improve his or her comfort level with common soft tissue surgeries. Some of you may have previously taken Canine Soft Tissue Surgery Part 2; however, there is no overlap in topics between Parts 1 and 2, and it is not necessary to take the 2 parts in order. For all diseases discussed, I will provide a brief overview of pathophysiology, diagnostic evaluation, indications for surgery, aftercare and prognosis. The surgical techniques covered will range in difficulty from relatively straightforward procedures such as cystotomy and gastrotomy to more difficult procedures such as nephrectomy and total ear canal ablation. In addition to these topics, the following topics will be covered:

Scrotal urethrostomy
Ruptured bladder
Episioplasty
Episiotomy
Cesarian section
Enterotomy
Catheter removal of linear foreign bodies
Intestinal resection and anastomosis
Perineal hernia
Arytenoid lateralization for laryngeal paralysis
Surgery for brachycephalic airway syndrome
Temporary tracheostomy tube placement
Ventral bulla osteotomy
Aural hematoma

The course has 3 unique aspects:

First, all surgical techniques will be demonstrated using narrated videos of actual clinical cases, providing a level of guidance that simply cannot be provided by drawings, still photographs or text-based descriptions.
Second, the course will be interactive: once logged on to the Quadam website, in addition to watching the course material, you will be able to send me questions or ask for advice on your own cases, and I will respond within a relatively short period of time.

Third, you can take the course at your preferred time and place. Each of the 6 lessons in the course will be available for 1 week, and you can watch the lesson any time during that week, 24/7. If you are traveling and have a cell phone, pad or laptop and wifi access, you can watch from any location. You will be able to watch full lessons in their entirety, or watch them a bit at a time – whatever best fits your schedule.
