ABOUT THE COURSE
Program number: 756897. Provider number: 27371
This program has been approved for 24 hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.

This fluid therapy course is designed to help the student gain a better understanding of decision-
making processes regarding fluid therapy in clinical patients. It focuses on applied physiology and breaks down those concepts for the clinician to understand rationale for treatment. Emphasis is placed on simplifying concepts and making decisions easier for the clinician, especially on the rapid and often stressful environment of the emergency clinician and criticalist. Rapid patient evaluation, quick calculations and decision making processes will be available for each step of fluid management, such as shock, dehydration and dysnatremias. As previously highlighted, the course covers the basics of fluid therapy (i.e. fluid compartments and their physiology), fluid types and routes, treatments of shock, treatment of dehydration, calculation of maintenance fluid requirements and ongoing losses, as well as electrolytes imbalance, with a specific class on dysnatremias.
